Common situations
Why people call us
You have to be out early
The town plow goes by and leaves a wall of heavy snow across the apron. We clear it before you need to back out.
Steps and walkways ice over
Packed snow melts during the day and refreezes at night. We clear to the surface and salt so it does not turn into a sheet of ice.
Nobody there to shovel it
A bad back, a trip out of town, a property you do not live at. We handle it without you being there.
Snow is piling up on the roof
Wet snow gets heavy, and storm after storm it keeps adding up. We take it off the roof and clear ice dams at the eaves before melting water finds its way inside.

Snow Removal — Common Questions
How much does snow removal cost?
Pricing depends on the size of the driveway, how much snow has to come off, the surface, and whether you want us per storm or for the whole season. GMX gives a free estimate based on the specific property.
How soon do you show up after a storm?
We work through the storm and after it. Season-contract properties are on the route first, which is the main reason people switch from calling each time.
Do you salt?
Yes. We salt what we clear — driveway, walkway and steps — so the surface does not refreeze overnight. Tell us when you request the estimate whether you want salt on every visit or only when it is icy.
What about the wall the town plow leaves at the end of the driveway?
That is part of the job. The berm at the apron is usually the heaviest, wettest snow on the property, and it is what actually keeps people stuck.
Do you clear commercial properties?
Yes. We plow larger lots with a truck and handle walkways, entrances and steps by hand. Commercial properties are usually on a season contract.
Do you haul the snow off the property?
Normally no — it gets piled where it will not block the driveway, the walkway or your view pulling out. Hauling snow off-site is possible on larger commercial jobs and is quoted separately.
Are estimates free?
Yes. Estimates are free and come with no obligation.
What do you clear?
Driveways, walkways and entrances, so the property stays usable and safe to walk on. We also clear roof snow and ice dams. Tell us if there are areas that matter most — a side door you actually use, a path to the trash barrels, space to get a car out — and we will plan the route around them.
Seasonal contract or per-storm — how do they differ?
A seasonal arrangement covers the whole winter for a set price: you pay the same whether it snows twice or twenty times, and customers on a season plan are normally serviced before one-off calls. Per-storm means you pay for each visit, which can cost less in a mild winter but puts you behind the contracted route when a big storm hits. Tell us which suits you and we will price it.
How much snow has to fall before you come out?
Most residential snow services work to a trigger depth — a set number of inches that starts the route, commonly around two to three inches in Massachusetts. Below that, many homeowners prefer to handle it themselves. Tell us the depth you want us acting on and we will set the service up that way.
Do you clear around cars and mailboxes?
Say so in advance and we will. The crew works much faster when it knows the layout before the first storm — where cars normally sit, where the oil fill or meter is, which side the mailbox is on. Details like that are easy to miss under a foot of snow.
Should I book before winter starts?
Yes, and it makes a real difference. Routes are planned before the season, and once snow is already falling, most services are running their existing route first. Arranging it in the fall is far easier than trying to get added mid-storm.
Do you take snow off roofs?
Yes. Fresh snow is light, but it compacts and soaks up melt water, so the load on a roof after a few back-to-back storms is usually more than people expect. Flat and low-slope roofs hold it the longest. If snow has been sitting up there through several storms, call us and we will look at it when we come out.
What is an ice dam, and do you remove them?
Yes, we remove them. An ice dam is the ridge of ice that builds up along the edge of a roof: snow higher up melts, the water runs down to the colder eaves and refreezes there, and that ice blocks the next round of melt water. The trapped water backs up under the shingles and shows up as a stain on a ceiling or a wall. Thick icicles along the gutter line are the usual warning sign.
